Girl raped on her way from school

“We urge children to be vigilant at all times, especially around their school, refrain from talking to strangers and report any suspicious-looking vehicle or people."

KwaThema – Police are investigating a case of rape after a 15-year-old girl was raped while on her way home from school on Friday.

It is alleged the girl was walking along Joe Mzamane Street when she was approached by a red sedan with three male occupants.

KwaThema police spokesperson Const Media Khoza says one male asked her for directions, but she told him she doesn’t know the area they were looking for.

“He then pulled out a knife and instructed her to get inside the vehicle.

“They drove her to an open field behind Masimini Primary School.

“One of the suspects remained in the car while the two other suspects took turns raping her.

“When they were done they left her at the scene,” she says.

This follows an in incident that took place on April 2 where an 11-year-old girl was raped by three men while waiting for her school transport.

“She was also approached by an unknown man driving a sedan who forced her inside the vehicle and drove her to an open field in the Rest in Peace area, where the suspect repeatedly raped her.

“Both victims were provided with counselling and received necessary medical attention.

“Police are working tirelessly with the help of the victims to identify these suspects who are taking advantage of vulnerable children.

“We urge children to be vigilant at all times, especially around their school, refrain from talking to strangers and report any suspicious-looking vehicle or people.

“The community is encouraged to work together with the police to bring these perpetrators to book and let justice serve,” she says.
