There has been a countrywide increase in incidents of break-ins on Ford Fiesta vehicles.
Thieves are able to break into the vehicle without setting off an alarm due to a faulty security system.
Beaulin Esley from Cassey’s Auto Springs Ford stated they have received five incidents where a break-in has occurred and the alarm was not triggered.

According to Esley, the 2012 to 2017 Fiesta models are the ones being targeted.
“Thieves use a screwdriver to gain access to the vehicle, which overrides the alarm mechanism,” says Esley.

Ford South Africa issued a statement on Twitter on Friday saying: “We’ve been testing a security upgrade for certain previous-generation Fiesta and EcoSport models to give customers greater peace of mind.
“Our dealers can now offer it to customers at a nominal cost of R155.25.”
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said in a statement: “This is a national issue.

“So far, in Springs, we haven’t experienced break-ins on Ford Fiestas.
“As Springs SAPS management we would like to warn the community to be vigilant when parking and look out for any suspicious-looking people.”
