Tsakane – Community members from Tsakane were contracted to build pavements and walkways in their ward.

Ward 85 Clr Sipho Sibiya says not only is it procedure to give preference to residents, but it helps the families too.

He continues: “Although this is not a permanent solution to unemployment, the week or two that people spend workingoffers relief to their families.”

One of the contractors who was working on Puseletso Street in Tsakane Extension 5B, Dikeledi Mkhabela, says: “I am happy to be building a walkway in my own community because I will be proud to bring people here as it will look good.

“I also look forward to rainy days when my children will be able to get to school without waddling in the mud,” says Mkhabela.
