The African Reporter becomes a smart paper

AR is simply the blending of interactive digital elements, such as visual overlays, which show us real world environments on (in this case) the newspaper page.

You may have noticed something a little different about the paper this week – boxes around some of our articles.

These boxes, and the PixzAR logo, indicate stories which have augmented reality (AR) features.

Wherever you see these boxes, there is something more you can see or learn about the story.

So what is AR and how can you “get it”?

AR is simply the blending of interactive digital elements, such as visual overlays, which show us real world environments on (in this case) the newspaper page.

This means you will be able to read more about a story or, more likely, check out a video or gallery of photos connected to the story.

PixzAR

In order to see the elements attached to the stories you need to download an app called PixzAR for either Andriod or iOS from the appropriate app store.

Once you have this on your phone you can scan the newspaper articles or photos marked with the PixzAR box and logo to see what smart elements are attached to the story.

It’s that simple.
