Residents pray for peaceful elections

KwaThema – Different churches and residents of Kwatsaduza gathered at KwaThema Stadium on Sunday to pray for peaceful national elections in May.

The event included prayer, worship and song.

Chief whip of council Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi said the City of Ekurhuleni decided to partner with organisers of the Ekurhuleni Gospel Explosion (EGE) as a way of showing their support to the faith-based sector.

“We, too, want to see a peaceful election on May 8,” says Dlabathi.

Organiser Pastor Siphume Mabena says EGE has grown from strength to strength.

This was the third consecutive year in which the event was held.

“We remain grateful for the support we’ve received from our local municipality in joining us in this year’s special prayer meeting.

“This year we’ve decided to focus our gathering on praying for the upcoming elections,” he says.

Deputy chairperson of the ANC, Panyaza Lesufi, thanked the church fraternity for praying for all the political parties.

“We are also here as the African National Congress to plead with the church to pray for us and help us to win the upcoming elections so that we can continue working for the residents,” Lesufi says.
