Suspect arrested for Duduza school break-ins

“The campaign is proving to be a great success and the police are delighted that the community is finally understanding the great successes that can be achieved by the power of blowing a whistle."

Duduza – A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with a string of school burglaries in the area on Saturday.

This was after the police and the Department of Basic Education launched the Blow Your Whistle for School Safety campaign earlier this year.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka says the arrest followed an intense investigation by the police and active participation by the community.

“The suspect was traced and found in possession of property believed to have been stolen during a burglary at two schools in Duduza.

“He will appear before the Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon and has been remanded in police custody,” he explains.

Police cannot rule out the possibility of connecting the arrested man to burglaries at other schools.

“We are expecting to make more arrests soon.

“The campaign is proving to be a great success and the police are delighted that the community is finally understanding the great successes that can be achieved by the power of blowing a whistle.

“Police also wish to encourage the members of the community to continue reporting crime when they see it and that all victims of crime should report them so that the police can investigate,” says Manaka.
