Golf championship for unemployed golfers

“We organised this championship for our caddies, pensioners and unemployed players who do not get a chance to play in other championships because of the costs involved,” - Nkosi.

Springs – The Monday and Thursday School Golf Club held a championship at the Springs Country Club this Monday.

“We organised this championship for our caddies, pensioners and unemployed players who do not get a chance to play in other championships because of the costs involved,” says club chairperson Chris Nkosi.

The golf championship was sponsored by funeral parlour B3.

“In addition to the B3 sponsorship, our members had to pay R150 to play, which is a drop in the ocean when compared to the actual costs of playing in such a championship,” adds club coordinator Cornelius Nomandla.

The club believes it was important to have such a tournament to keep their members busy.

“If unemployed members do not get a chance to be part of such a tournament, they might find themselves abusing substances or involving themselves in crime.

“Being surrounded by like-minded golfers creates an environment for the players to use their time positively,” adds Nkosi.

The club meets every Monday and Thursday at the Springs Country Club and has members from Kwatsaduza, Daveyton and Thembisa, among others.

Anyone looking to join the club is to contact Nkosi on 083 600 0572 or Nomandla on 081 024 4876.
