Grade 9 learners encouraged to join extra maths lessons.

“We would like parents to take leadership in their homes and encourage their children to join extra lessons, even if it’s not ours as without any extra help in maths, the chances of failure are higher,” says Masiloane

Kwatsaduza – Maths 2022 which was founded earlier this year by Ntsane Masiloane who has been running school enrichment programmes since 2011, held their award ceremonies in Daveyton, Duduza and KwaThema, for their top performing maths learners.

Their Maths 2022 programme, which currently has 1 300 registered learners, aims to develop 5 000 Grade Nine learners in maths by 2022.

“We assist the learners on weekdays for 45 minutes after school and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays,” says Masiloane.

The programme was started after Maths 22 conducted research that found that only a fraction of high school learners is matriculating with maths, limiting their study options at university.

“The point of the programme is to stimulate a love for maths early into high school so we can change their attitude towards maths, opening them up to a world of possibilities after high school.

“It will also encourage them to develop discipline and good time management as those are key to pass maths” he continues.

The programme currently assists only Grade Nine learners but aims to branch out to other grades soon.

“We would like parents to take leadership in their homes and encourage their children to join extra lessons, even if it’s not ours as without any extra help in maths the chances of failure are higher,” he says.

“We would also like to extend our gratitude to Musa Zwane, the owner of The Venue in KwaThema and Robert Zwane (CA) from South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (Saica) for their support,” he concludes.
