KwaThema NPO making a difference

They have also partnered with Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, young engineers and Mach1.

KwaThema – Interchange Community Foundation Hub (ICFH) is a non-profit organisation (NPO) at the heart of KwaThema.

They assist learners from Grade One to Grade 12 with daily homework and has extended programmes in science and technology, arts (ballet and drawing) and leadership skills.

Thokozile Mabena, the founder, says: “We would like to invite parents to bring their children to the centre for learning purposes, to get needed exposure to different career paths and for them to be social beings.”

A joining fee of R100 is required and payable every month.

The organisation was invited to attend the Festival of the Arts, which took place on March 9 in Johannesburg. Thirty children from ICFH were selected to part take in the event in various programmes, such as art, dance, drama and music.

They have also partnered with Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, young engineers and Mach1.

Mach1 recently hosted Grade Four and Grade 12 learners on a career day at Mach1 Aviation Academy, Hangar 3 at Springs Airfield.

The centre is educational and offers fun activity during the school holidays.

“We work with learners during school holidays as well, especially because many of them stay at home and have nothing productive to do,” says Mabena.
