Local teams to participate in Gauteng Development League

They want to promote sportsmanship within the township and encourage junior soccer teams and players by giving them a chance to showcase their skills and talents and regularly play competitive football.

KwaThema – Phulong local teams will participate in the upcoming Gauteng Development League, which is set to take place this coming Easter holidays. Local team coach Mkhonzana Mkhonza says, “Four different divisions comprising of u-13, u-15, u-17 and u-19 will be competing in this tournament.”

The Gauteng Development League was launched back in 2017 with the aim of increasing participation and competitive football at junior level.

They want to promote sportsmanship within the township and encourage junior soccer teams and players by giving them a chance to showcase their skills and talents and regularly play competitive football.

The league is part of the developing strategy of the association’s ambitious Visions 2022 programme that seeks to widen the pool of players, coaches, referees and football lovers all around the Gauteng province.

The league, which comprises of a number of Premier Soccer League (PSL) and academy clubs, has seen thousands of aspiring footballers improve their skills and venture out to play among the biggest teams in South Africa.
