At the beginning of the game, North West Vaal University seemed to underestimate the Springs Home Sweepers because they were juniors and didn’t have much experience playing against bigger players.

As a result, they were relaxed, which made it possible for the team’s player Bontle Sedila to score first.

But it wasn’t long before North West retaliated and managed to score, which led to the draw.

The team’s coach, Mkhonzana Mkhonza, says, “The girls just promoted 90 per cent of this team from our junior team. They were all under 20.”

Springs Home Sweepers captain Gugulethu Nkosi (16) explained that the game was challenging but teamwork and discipline helped them.

We played a very good game and had no intentions of losing the game, even though we were playing with people who were older than us.

“Thanks to great teamwork and discipline, we managed to secure a goal,” says Nkosi.
