“During his rearrest, he was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition."

Tsakane – Fugitive Sbonelo Nkosingiphe Thwala (27) was rearrested on Thursday while hiding in Tsakane.

The 27-year-old escaped from the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on December 5 while appearing for possession of unlicensed firearm and murder, which he allegedly committed in Jeppe, Johannesburg, in April last year.

Suspect arrested for business robbery

He was arrested after the police received a tip-off from the community and followed up on it.

Police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo says, “During his rearrest, he was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“He will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face a charge of escaping from lawful custody.

“He is expected back in the High Court for the initial charge of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.”

Masondo says after Thwala escaped in December, a team of detectives worked tirelessly to find him.

“Police received information about his possible whereabouts and went to the house in the early hours of Thursday morning, where he was arrested,” he adds.
