Local business workshop held to improve businesses

“Small-business people like shortcuts and want overnight success, but for your business to survive this should not be the case," he says.

KwaThema – Small-business people were encouraged to seek business skills to be able to contribute to the improvement of the shaky economy.

This was said during a business expo held at KwaThema Council Chambers on Friday.

Businessman Mcedisi Vilakazi says Abantu Business Connex is aimed at connecting local businesses with outside businesses for business opportunities.

“We have identified that one of the big challenges contributing to the unstable economy is that South Africans are not producers or manufactures, but consumers.

“I believe we are very capable of improving the economy if we all work on our production and manufacturing skills.

“There is a lot of money that goes out of the townships rather than circulating in the township communities.

“We need to do away with business people being dependent on the government to make it, but create an environment that will be conducive for everyone to compete,” he says.

Mcedisi says another challenge that South Africans have lies in implementation.

“We have all the best ideas, but fail to implement them because we are scared of failing.

“Through the initiative, we will arm the small-business people with skills and help draft business plans and business proposals which will help improve their businesses,” he says.

Local businessman Thokozani Dladla says the only way for the business to succeed is to be ready to fight and fight hard.

“Small-business people like shortcuts and want overnight success, but for your business to survive this should not be the case.

“You are going to have sleepless nights and lose money in the process. You will not be able to reap results in the first five years and it won’t be easy.

“There will be times when you wish to bury everything under the ground and seek employment, but those who believe in the future of the business won’t,” he adds.
