Four arrested for possession of firearms

“We are appealing to the community to keep on working together with the police in fighting crime."

KwaThema – Four suspects, three men and one woman, aged between 24 and 37 were arrested for possession of a shotgun, an R5 rifle and ammunition on Tuesday by Ekurhuleni East Cluster Trio Task Team.

The arrest came as the task team followed a lead after the last recovery of two firearms that were stolen in KwaThema in February.

Tsakane police spokesperson Lerato Mngomezulu says the first suspect, a 24-year-old man, was arrested at 18759 Ndebele Street, Extension Six, KwaThema, for possession of a shotgun.

“The arrested suspect led the police to the address in Langaville, Tsakane, where two men and a woman were arrested.

“They were found in possession of an R5 rifle loaded with ammunition and live ammunition not loaded.

“The R5 rifle that was recovered belonged to a member of the police who was robbed in KwaThema on February 13.

“The shotgun belonged to a Fidelity Guard Security Company and it was also taken during a business robbery in KwaThema on February 9,” she explains.

The Ekurhuleni East Cluster commander, Maj Gen Girly Mumsy Mbele, congratulated and appreciated the commitment and dedication the members showed.

She also thanked the community for providing information that leads to these results.

“We are appealing to the community to keep on working together with the police in fighting crime,” she says.
