Three men sentenced to 18 years for rape

“Rape is a serious crime and the verdict will never be light for anyone guilty of rape,” she adds.

Tsakane – Mokone Lesedi, Thukwane John and Ndlovu Thulani were sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for rape by the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

This is for the rape incident that took place October 3, 2015, along Masuku Street in KwaThema.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says the victim was walking along Masuku Street alone when she was attacked by three males.

“They took her to a house on Masuku Street where they took turns raping her throughout the night till the next morning.

“The convicted suspects were also declared not suitable to work with children and their names were registered in the National Child Protection Register,” explains Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu says the South African Police Service will always enforce every law in the Constitution to protect the rights of all the citizens.

“It is the police’s obligation to bring all the perpetrators before a court of law and investigate for justice to be reached.

“Rape is a serious crime and the verdict will never be light for anyone guilty of rape,” she adds.

Ekurhuleni East Cluster commander Maj Gen Girly Mumsy Mbele thanks everyone who was involved in this case and the community members who came forward with information and witnesses who led to these good results.
