Duduza – A 49-year-old man, who believed the baby left in his girlfriend’s care was possessed by evil spirits, stands accussed of murdering the infant.
The man arrested in Duduza in connection with the murder in Masechaba Section on Sunday.
It is alleged the baby’s grandmother left the baby in the care of a neighbour while she went to a nearby house.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka says it is alleged the baby started crying while in the care of the neighbour.
“The minder, who at the time was with her boyfriend, placed the baby on the bed and went to the kitchen to prepare juice in the baby bottle.

“When she returned she found her boyfriend with a garden hosepipe in his hand, standing next to the baby with her head covered in blood.
“The lady screamed and asked what had happened.
“The suspect told her that he hit the baby with the hosepipe because he believed the baby was possessed by evil spirits.
“Police were called to the scene and the suspect was arrested,” he explains.
Manaka adds the suspect appeared at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder.
