Learner wins big from local grocery store

“It also helped to give learners the opportunity to become educated without concerns about affordability.”

Tsakane – Siphesihle Zwane (9) from Anzac Primary School won R5 000 in Shoprite’s Class of 2019 competition at Shoprite Tsakane.

The annual competition calls on learners from Grade One to Grade 12 across the country to gather pen and paper and submit a short essay or creative drawing describing what they want to be when they grow up.

Public relations officer at Shoprite head office Angelique Wagner says the grocery store is helping to ease the burden of rising education costs by offering its customers a basic school uniform for under R100.

“We also gave more than 460 learners the opportunity to have their 2019 school fees paid for.

“Learners who entered its Class of 2019 competition by January 27 stood the chance to be one of the hundreds of deserving winners to have their school fees, uniforms and stationery paid for by Shoprite.

“Above inflation school fee increases are leaving families more cash-strapped than ever before and they are struggling to pay for fees, uniforms and stationery,” she explains.

Angelique says the low-price uniforms and fee competition form part of the retailer’s unwavering commitment to delivering the lowest prices on essentials every day.

“It also helped to give learners the opportunity to become educated without concerns about affordability,” she adds.
