Botched stormwater project to be fixed

In response to last week’s page 1 story, “Open stormwater drains a safety risk”, Ward 78 Clr Zanele Nyakale says she has been following up on the botched work carried out by an appointed contractor along Nhlengethwa Street in Mthembu Village, Msimini section.
“Since my office identified that the road is becoming a safety risk for residents, especially motorist, I immediately contacted the contractor.
“When I didn’t receive a satisfying response from the contractor I escalated the matter to the Department of Roads and Transport.
“We have reached an agreement for the contractor to fix the damages as soon as possible,” she says.
Nyakale says she is concerned that the residents have removed the barricade meant to caution motorists of the danger ahead.
“Some are even throwing rubbish inside the sinkholes,” she adds.
