New safety measures in 4 + 1 taxis

“The cards have a picture of the driver, the name of the driver, the driver’s phone number and the driver’s identifying number.” – Mndebele

Kwatsaduza – The Springs Taxi Association has introduced driver identity cards following reports of passengers falling victim to people pretending to be taxi drivers.

“As an association, we noticed commuters complaining about stopping a ‘4 + 1’ taxi only to realise that it was someone posing as a driver with the intention to harm the passengers,” says association secretary general Themba Gininda.

“We have branded our cars with the name of the association to make them noticeable,” he continues.

Chairperson of the association’s 4 + 1 committee, Zakhele Mndebele, says the association has introduced identity cards that are to be displayed in all 4 + 1 taxis.

“The cards have a picture of the driver, the name of the driver, the driver’s phone number and the driver’s identifying number,” Mndebele continues.

He says the identifying number is the most important detail on the card because it will help the association identify the driver quicker should the passenger need to report the driver.
