Protect your house from break-ins this festive season

When loading your luggage, make sure you are not seen, because this might lead to criminals breaking into your home.

Tsakane – During the festive season people often leave their homes to go on holiday, or even stay away for just one night. This makes it easy for criminals to gain access to your home and rob you of your valuables.

Tsakane police spokeswoman Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu shares tips to keep your home safe from break-ins:

• Do not leave your home unattended. Have someone who will look after it or stay behind in the house.

• Know your neighbour and ask them to check on your house from time to time.

• Make sure your windows are properly closed and doors locked when going to sleep or going away.

• When loading your luggage, make sure you are not seen, because this might lead to criminals breaking into your home.

• When you buy a new item for your home, especially plasma TVs and other valuables that might attract criminals, make sure you dispose of the packaging to avoid being targeted by criminals. Do not show off.
