Siyabonga Miya (24) has been sentenced to life in prison

Tsakane – Siyabonga Miya (24) has been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court for the murder of well-known tavern owner Alpheus “Rekisa” Makgolane on Wednesday.

Makgolane was murdered on December 11, 2016, outside his tavern in Langaville.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says Miya was found guilty on five counts which include murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, assault and pointing of a firearm.

“He was sentenced to life imprisonment for count one, three years’ imprisonment for count two, five years’ imprisonment for count three, eight years’ imprisonment for count four and five years’ imprisonment for count five,” she says.

The sentence came after the hard work and dedication of the investigating officer Const Noxolo Zitho.

“Tsakane SAPS would like to send the message to the community that every law of South Africa binds all the citizens.

“The police will always enforce every law in the Constitution and also protect the right to life and act (arrest) if life has been taken,” she adds.
