Jan Cronje Park a family park

The previously vandalised Jan Cronje park has been revamped and officially handed over to the residents of Wright Park.

KwaThema – The previously vandalised Jan Cronje park has been revamped and officially handed over to the residents of Wright Park.

The park has now been turned into an eco-park furnished with gymnasium facilities, kiddies play area and bathroom facilities.

It was revamped as part of the Lungile Mtshali Community Development Projects.

Chairperson of Wright Park CPF Arles Baloyi says they are happy now that the park will be put to good use.

“Through the years we have been pleading with different ward councillors to fix the park and install entertainment equipment for the children but were always told there is no budget for it.

“The swings were damaged and the park was not maintained to the point that criminals used it for their criminal activities.

“We are happy that after these years our pleas have been answered and our children will have a safer place to play,” he says.

“The park also encourages the residents to become active by using the gym equipment fitted.

“Families will now use it as a picnic venue and children can play while their parents braai their meat,” he further explains.

The residents are hoping that crime will go down now that the park will be maintained.

They say criminals frequented the park, driving the children away from using the facility. The members of the CPF will patrol the park to ensure it is not vandalised.

“We are urging the residents to take care of the park and report any illegal activities,” says Arles.
