Residents urged to not damage depot

KwaThema – KwaThema Parks depot has finally been completed and handed over to the community of KwaThema.

The site is a depot park for the municipal vehicles at the corner of Moshoeshoe and Kgaswane streets.

The project started in April 2016 and was supposed to be completed within six months, but because of delays and the shortage of funds, the project ran over two years.

Last Thursday member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Waste Management Services Clr Ndosi Shongwe officially opened the depot.

Shongwe says the facility will house over 50 municipal officials who reside and work in the area.

“The 50 officials had to travel to Springs only to report for duty and come back to KwaThema to perform their duties.

“The opening of the depot in the vicinity will improve the response time and frequency of environment and parks-related services to the people of KwaThema.

“The R18-million facilities is completely equipped with adequate facilities and dedicated vehicles for efficient provision of parks management services as well as all environmental services,” she explains.

Shongwe said the construction of this depot came about as a result of the request made by community members during the IDP/budget meetings.

“This depot is meant to create an easy access for services as well as for the community to easily walk-in to inquire about all parks and environment-related services,” says Shongwe.

She urged the community to look after the newly opened depot and reminded them that it was built using the residents’ hard-earned money, collected through rates and taxes.
