Learners encouraged to stay away from drugs

“It is always better to teach them what is right and wrong when they are still young.”

Tsakane – Legal and communications officer of Tsakane SAPS joined Khombindlela Primary School on their career day a few weeks ago.

The Grade Seven learners dressed in different outfits of different careers of their choices to show which careers they are interested in.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says the learners’ choices were based on what they would like to become.

“This is an ongoing initiative in all primary schools which creates a good platform to motivate the learners to focus on their studies.

“We are also trying to discourage them from engaging in criminal activities and for the girl learners not to fall pregnant but to focus on their studies.

“As part of the visit, we offered the learners motivational talks about the dangers of substance abuse.

“We are trying to build a relationship where the learners will be able to approach the police if they believe there are any criminal activities in the community or the school environment,” she says.

Mngomezulu says as the police, they want the learners to grow up to become responsible citizens.

“It is always better to teach them what is right and wrong when they are still young,” she says.
