Local Women’s League spends day with day-care children

“Check whether the centre is registered or not before you enrol your child.”

KwaThema – Members of the Women’s League in Ward 77 celebrated International Children’s Day (November 3) with the children at Eyethusonke Day Care Centre last week.

The initiative was aimed at spending the day with the children, inspecting the premises they spend most of their day at.

Organiser Selina Mofokeng says they identified the centre in the community and decided to visit them.

“The centre caters for 120 children from and around the area with 14 staff members.

“We felt the need to spend our day with them because our children spend most of their day in these spaces and we feel it is important that they are well taken care of.

“We shared goodie bags and lunch with the children,” she says.

Selina says they are urging parents to ensure their children are left in good hands.

“We frequently read about children who are neglected and abused in centres of learning but if parents play an active role in our children’s education then this can be avoided.

“Check whether the centre is registered or not before you enrol your child.

“The foundation phase of your children’s education is very important and will be part of them for the rest of their lives, whether good or bad.

“It is not only the responsibility of the government but all the members of the community, especially the parents,” she says.
