Register your child for Saturday school for 2019

Focus on Maths and Languages will open for 2019 registration on November 10.

KwaThema – Focus on Maths and Languages will open for 2019 registration on November 10.

The movement aims to break the cycle of poor education in township schools.

Established in 2013, by Themba Vamba, a teacher, Sibongile Morulane, Dorcus Madi and George Skaka, who are retired teachers, the programme assists learners from Grades Three to 10 with mathematics, isiZulu, Tswana, Afrikaans and English.

“The learners are from the different schools around Kwatsaduza, including schools from former model C.

“They attended the Saturday classes from January until October 27, which was their last Saturday to attend for 2018.

“They are now ready to sit for their final exam at their respective schools. These are learners who are doing grade 3 to grade 10,” explains Vamba.

Focus on Maths and Languages is one of a few after-school projects that cater for primary school learners in the community.

“It is compulsory for all our leaners to do maths and two languages with us,” says Eldah Morulane, one of the educators.

Morulane says they have seen a great improvement in the academic results of their leaners.

“They perform really well at their respective schools.

“Unfortunately, we will not cater for mathematical literacy, but pure maths only.”

The teachers are inviting parents who would like their children to join the programme next year to register them.

The classes are held at Khangezile Primary School.

“We also want to invite companies who would like to partner with us in this venture.

“We are grooming stars.”
