Masina still the mayor of Ekuhurleni

Germiston – Councillor Mzwandile Masina survived a motion of no confidence against him as his ANC caucus stood by him.

The motion, supported by opposition political parties including the DA and the EFF, failed to produce enough votes to get Masina out of his seat.

In his response to the move Jongizizwe Dlabathi, ANC chief whip in Ekurhuleni said, “In our view, this motion is rather an attempt to resuscitate political airtime of the DA. It is now apparent that the relevancy of the DA is slowly diminishing in politics.”

He called the motion ‘desperate’.

“The DA is really trying hard to preserve its ‘position number two’ in the midst of its glaring poor leadership, a tacitly divided party and a party that is structurally confused.”

“This motion is about saving its dire situation and the desperation to regain momentum,” he adds.

“We are not surprised. The party is confused.

“The motion can be summed up as a mere exaggeration of a crisis. An illusion and an attempt to create yet another new negative political narrative in order to position themselves for 2019.”

The motion was unlikely to be successful as ANC caucus put their full weight behind Masina.

Dlabathi mentioned a few of the projects he believes the mayor has been successful in, including the increase of the metro’s bursary fund to R100-million to benefit 1 850 students in 2019.

“We completed 12 263 serviced stands as well as issuing of more than 3 703 tittle deeds within 26 months,” he adds.

Mzwandile Masina remains the mayor of Ekurhuleni.
