The Springs SAPS would like to warn parents and learners about recent attempted kidnappings in the area.

“We had two incidents within this week where school children were nearly abducted.

“It seems like these people are targeting children who are alone, without anybody close to them.

“We want to warn the public to be vigilant and observant and make sure children are not left without any supervision.

“If children have to walk from or to school rather let someone accompany them rather than them walking alone.

“Don’t let your child go to a public bathroom alone and keep a watchful eye on them in any public space like play areas.

“We ask that parents take responsibility for their children’s safety and protection as they can be prosecuted by law for child neglect.

“Remember, negligence promotes crime,” says Amanda Greybe, communications officer for Springs SAPS.

She says they experience challenges while conducting patrols in the community.

“People are not safeguarding their property by not closing gates and windows when leaving their premises.

“Also, displaying valuables such as garden equipment or patio sets is never a good idea.

“By leaving these valuables in the open is an invitation to criminals to steal from or enter your property.

“It is festive season and together with community cooperation, we can prevent crime and make it a safe and secure environment for our children, elderly and domestic workers.”
