Man arrested in possession of a stolen vehicle

KwaThema – A 35-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle on Saturday.

The arrest took place during practical training of EMPD cadets who were conducting practicals to test their theoretical knowledge they gained in class.

A Toyota Corolla sedan attracted the metro police’s attention and on inspection, it emerged that the vehicle had been stolen.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago says the stolen vehicle was stopped on Ergo Road whereupon it was found that the clearance certificate displayed was tampered with and the original rear plate displayed was found blemished.

“It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen in March this year in KwaThema.

“The driver was immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded,” he explains.

Kgosago says the suspects claimed he recently bought the vehicle and had no registration papers of the vehicle because he still had to settle the payment.

The recovered vehicle was taken to the SAPS pound at Van Ryn Deep in Benoni for further investigations.

“The suspect was detained at Brakpan Police Station and he is expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon,” says Kgosago.
