Gogo learns how to bake at 71
“I was happy when I learned there is someone willing to train me in the comfort of my home.”
Duduza – Gogo Selina Makgabutlana (71) received her first formal baking lessons from a local baker on Tuesday.
This was made possible by professional baker Enoch Dladla who is an accredited in-service training provider at FoodBev SETA.
Enoch says he decided to offer services to the unemployed residents to help them fight poverty in the area.

“Many people are unemployed and don’t have the means to provide for their families.
“Through the skills I offer them, I hope they will be able to start their small business and in the process provide employment for others.
“As residents, we need to understand not everyone is going to be employed or have to depend on government for survival,” explains Enoch.
Enoch provides daily training at the Tsakane Old Age Centre to young people in the area.

He says he also provides in-service training to private students in the comfort of their own kitchens.
“This is for the elders and disabled residents who are unable to travel to Tsakane Old Age Centre.
“The student has to have a functional oven and the ingredients.
“I teach them how to bake scones, muffins, pastry, doughnuts and cakes,” he says.
Gogo Selina says she has always wanted to go for formal baking training but never had the opportunity to go.
“I was happy when I learned there is someone willing to train me in the comfort of my home.
“I am now going to teach my grandchildren how to become the best bakers and hope they will pass the skill to others,” she says.
