Parents encouraged to appeal learner progress report

KwaThema – Parents from Ntokozweni Primary School were educated about the channels they can follow to appeal their children’s performance in school.
This was during the school assessment meeting held at the school on Wednesday.
Addressing the parents, coordinator of the meeting Nontsikelelo Motau explained that an appeal is a formal written request by the parents or guardians of a learner for reconsideration of an assessment decision that had been made by the school.
“An appeal against an assessment decisions should be conducted within the framework of the South African schools Act 84/1996, National Educational Policy Act 27/1996, NPA (Grades R to 12 and GET and FET quality assurance Act 58.2001.”

Motau said the parents can lodge an appeal on the unfairness of the decision taken by the school.
“If a parent feels the decision taken was inaccurate, that specific information was not considered, and that the decision made by the school contradicts existing policy, they can appeal.
“They can also argue that teaching and learning did not happen.
“We have identified that parents often do not know which channels to follow to lodge an appeal, and through this workshop, we are educating parents about this,” says Motau.
