EMPD beefs up equestrian unit numbers with three new members
Three new members have joined the EMPD Equestrian Unit.
Three metro police officers became fully-fledged members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Equestrian Unit following an intensive six-week basic course under the tutelage of instructors from Pro-Equestrian in Fairleads in Benoni.
The three recruits received their certificates last Thursday at a ceremony held at the EMPD Equestrian Unit main office at Petit.
The Equestrian Unit was started in 2005 with only five members and has grown to include an additional 10 members since then.
The Equestrian Unit forms part of the Specialised Units at EMPD whose duties include patrolling designated areas on horseback, enforcing laws and providing crowd control to maintain public safety.
