Nigel Magistrate’s Court educates residents on services

Duduza- The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court hosted a service delivery exhibition at Bluegum View recently.
The event saw different stakeholders, including the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Home Affairs local police, the Department of Correctional Services and the Department of Social Development.
It was aimed at informing and educating the community about the general services offered by the different departments and how to access them.
The Nigel Magistrate’s Court senior administration clerk, Zenny Giyane, says they were concerned about how the residents didn’t know how the law works and what some of their responsibilities were.

“Through the initiative, we distributed information in the form of talks from different stakeholders and handed out brochures.
“The residents were given opportunities to ask questions and some of the queries were resolved and they were also advised which department could help,” she says.
She further urged the residents to utilise the services of the different departments because they are set up to address their challenges.

“The government officials are there to serve the community and should always be accessible to the residents.
“We offer services in the family law section which include maintenance, domestic violence and harassment.
“We also have services in the late estate office, children’s court and divorce department, criminal section, small claims court, civil court and finance section catering for bails and court fines,” she adds.
