High-accident zone on new road has been fixed in KwaThema

Drivers advised to obey the new stop signs on the new road leading to KwaThema Square.

KwaThema – The residents of Phomolo Section have raised concerns about the newly developed road joining Myvlei Road in Brakpan and Thema Road in KwaThema.

This road is very busy because many pedestrians and taxis use it to travel to the new local shopping centre, KwaThema Square.

Cassper Khumalo, a resident of Phomolo Section, says he has witnessed three terrible accidents that have occurred on the road.

He says drivers are confused about who must stop first where the two roads meet, because there is no visible stop sign.

“The development of the road was slow, so I thought it was going to be perfect, with all the necessary road signs, but clearly it’s not,” adds Khumalo.

On Monday afternoon workers from the Springs roads and stormwater department corrected the mistake by marking the road and putting up stop signs at the four-way stop.

Zamile Mboqo from the department explains this was to help prevent any further accidents from happening.

He cautions drivers to observe the new road markings and stop signs.

Moses Nkabinde, another resident of Phomolo Section, says, “EMPD officials need to be stationed in the area so that drivers, especially taxi drivers, learn to observe the stop signs.”
