Learners talk about their challenges

“Different panellists spoke and motivated the learners according to the relevance of the different topics".

Tsakane – Learners from 10 different schools in the area attended a dialogue on peer pressure and other social ills that affect learners, at Faranani Multipurpose Centre on Friday.

Different stakeholders from government departments made up the panels to help motivate and educate learners.

The dialogue saw 10 delegates from each of the schools engaging with former offenders sharing some of their stories on how they ended up behind bars.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says the learners came up with topics of issues that affect them daily.

“Different panellists spoke and motivated the learners according to the relevance of the different topics.

“Learners had to outline the challenges, habits, causes and come up with solutions to the betterment of them and safety in the schools,” says.

Mngomezulu says through the dialogue they are hoping to keep the learners off the streets and keep them from wrongdoing.

“We are concerned about the high number of young people who are addicted to drugs and other susbtances.

“We believe to curb the scourge is by engaging with the learners so we know where to start.”

The dialogue also focused on issues of bullying in school and gangsterism.
