Gogo Mahlangu celebrates 100 years

“We knew Gogo would be happy to see her entire family, from her children to her great-great-grandchildren,” he says.

Duduza – Seven generations of the Mahlangu family gathered to celebrate Gogo Nomasonto Mahlangu’s 100th birthday, along with friends, at her home on Sunday.

Gogo says her secret to growing old and strong is being God-fearing and respecting her elders.

“I respect my maker and always reference the Bible for every decision I take about my life. I always ask for guidance from God in everything I do.

“I also eat healthy, especially fruits and vegetables, and drink lots of water,” she says.

Mahlangu says she has had her fair share of life and understands what young people get up to.

“I believe God has kept me alive for this long to share my experiences with young people to keep them from harm’s way.”

One of Mahlangu’s grandsons, Lucky Mahlangu, says they decided to celebrate Gogo as she is the pillar of the family.

“We wanted all the children to gather under one roof and celebrate the elderly woman’s big day.

“We all live in different provinces and cannot meet regularly.

“We knew Gogo would be happy to see her entire family, from her children to her great-great-grandchildren,” he says.

Lucky adds Gogo has always been a community leader and has kept active in the church.

“To date, she is still an adviser to young women in the community and church, especially about carrying yourself as a respectable woman and being a good wife,” he says.
