Gogo grateful on Mandela Day

Gogo Martha Skhosana was spoilt by the Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) by receiving gifts at her home in Masechaba View last Wednesday.

Duduza – This was part of the international centenary celebration of the late former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela and Siyaqhuba Mayoral programme.

The 100-year-old gogo received a donation in the form of a brand new double bed, wheelchair, food parcel and grocery voucher worth R2 500.

Gogo says she is happy she was one of the residents who was selected to benefit from the initiative.

“I am more grateful for the wheelchair donation because I struggled to get out of my house without the help of others.

“My bed was worn-out but now that I have a new comfortable bed I will be able to sleep peacefully at night.

“I will now be able to wheel myself out of the house and enjoy fresh air and the sun while seeing my neighbours,” she says.

MMC for Human Settlement, Lisiba Mpya says residents should learn from the late former president for being generous and forgiving.

“We should prioritise the needs of the elderly and children ensuring that all their needs are met.

“We are calling on private businesses and residents to lend a helping hand to help government,” she says.
