Almost 1 000 Duduza residents get title deeds

Residents could not contain their excitement when they received title deeds to their homes on Friday.

Duduza – Scores of people, mainly senior citizens, braved the cold weather to receive their documents from Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Human Settlements councillor Lesiba Mpya together with Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Uhuru Moiloa

A total of 976 title deeds were handed over to their rightful owners.

One-hundred-year-old Gogo Gumede, whom Moiloa and Mpya paid a special visit, was one of them.

Gumede expressed her excitement through tears and ululation.

“I do not know how to thank you, getting hold of this document has been troubling me for a long time.

“Now my heart is at peace, thank you to our government.”

The officials also gave her a warm blanket to carry her through the cold season.

Meanwhile, Mpya encouraged residents to visit their nearby customer care centres to collect their title deeds.

He also reminded them to bring along a copy of their ID and a statement of rates and taxes.

Furthermore, beneficiaries are urged to not use their title deeds as collateral with loan sharks.

“Title deeds restore the security of tenure and dignity to the recipients.”
