UPDATE: Duduza bishop found guilty of rape

Springs – Bishop Peter Ndaba was found guilty of the rape in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Ndaba (52) was charged with two counts of rape against a minor who was a member, with her family, of his church.

He was arrested soon after the formal complaint was laid with the SAPS in November 2016.

The bishop pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The victim testified that the sexual relationship began in 2015 when she was 15 years old.

She testified that the first violation occurred while she was visiting the bishop’s home with another girl.

He called her to another room where he raped her.

She says he told her that he loved her and that is the reason why he had done it.

He went further to threaten to curse her and her family if she ever told a soul.

She says he convinced her that he had divine power to destroy her if she ever disobeyed him.

He continued to invite her to his home until November 2016, when the victim’s aunt discovered it.

“I trusted this man with everything.

“He has really hurt my family and me so deeply,” says the victim’s mother.

She says the family hoped to get justice, after such a long trial.

“We have been in and out of court all year.

“I believe the ruling will help others who are in similar situations to come forward.”

Sentencing will take place on August 28.

“We are happy that he will now pay for his actions.

“Justice has been served,” says the victim’s family spokesperson.

Ndaba will remain in custody until the sentencing.
