Local award company wants to sponsor a sound engineer

The Springs Hip Hop Awards Scholarship Programme is looking to sponsor a resident from Springs or KwaThema to study sound engineering.

“I want to do this because most bursaries don’t cover the cost to study sound engineering.

“If I had a choice, I would have studied music but nobody wanted to fund that.

“Many in the township don’t have the money to study music, so I want to help someone else achieve their dream,” says Tshepo Martin Moagi, founder of the scholarship.

The programme is looking for someone with a musical ear, passion for music, be between the ages of 18-23 and have passed matric with an admission for a Bachelors degree.

According to Moagi, a sound engineer is a person who brings life to a beat and makes sure all the audio components of a song are well balanced and fuse together well.

Moagi says, “I would love it if more women applied for this scholarship.

“There are not many women in this profession and I think hip-hop is ready for a ‘boss lady’ who is confident, assertive and really good at her craft.”

The winning candidate would receive funding for a year and would either study at Boston College or the Academy of Sound Engineering.

The closing date for entries is September 1 and applicants should submit their CVs, academic transcript and proof of residence to springshiphopawards@gmail.com and household income must not exceed R135 000 per year.
