Residents educated about different forms of abuse

Police from Tsakane Police Station, together with members of the security cluster, educated patients at Phuthanang Clinic about the different forms of abuse on Wednesday.

Tsakane – The patients were also educated about substance abuse and how they can report criminal cases anonymously.

The initiative was as a result of the increased number of femicides in the country.

Tsakane police, Sergeant Lebogang Ramaesa, says they decided to reach out to the patients at the clinic because this is where the victims seek medical help.

“We want them to know their rights and the different types of abuse there are.

“Many victims of abuse, especially domestic violence, fail to open cases until it is too late and unfortunately many end up losing their lives.

“We have also identified some victims open cases of abuse and later request to withdraw them.

“We explained to them how they can report a case and obtain a protection order against their abuser,” he says.
