Disadvantaged learners receive school shoes

Disadvantaged learners from KwaThema Primary School received 140 pairs of school shoes from the True Vine Tabernacle Foundation on Tuesday morning.

KwaThema – This was the first leg of the initiative aimed at reaching out and making the journey of young learners from the township bearable.

Dr Eva Seobi says they decided to join the community to help make an impact in the life of a learner.

“It pained us to see that there were learners who were forced to go to school without proper school shoes, especially on cold winter days.

“We decided to collect shoes with the help of Umphakathi Investment and identified KwaThema Primary School as our first beneficiaries.

“We are targeting 10 schools in a year within KwaThema and one donation after the other we are hoping to make an impact,” she says.

Seobi explains as part of the initiative they will lend a helping hand in fighting some of the challenges the teachers face in schools.

“We believe it takes a village to raise a child and it is not only the responsibility of the teachers and school to help craft a child’s future but also the community as a collective.

“We will also be training the learners in different careers, help with the psychological support,” she says.

MMC of Community Safety Dorah Mlambo says they are encouraging young people to use the facilities of the community libraries to learn how to read.

“Every Saturday there will be people who will be helping foundation phase learners how to read.

“We are encouraging the teachers to motivate the learners to use the facilities and initiatives,” she says.
