KwaThema – A silver BMW 320 was hijacked in Mondlo in KwaZulu-Natal in March 2017 and sold to a resident of KwaThema.
The police discovered the vehicle’s registration plate was false and confiscated the vehicle in March 2018.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was hijacked and a case was opened and investigated by the Mondlo police.

EMPD superintendent Wilfred Kgasago says the KwaThema man claimed he bought the vehicle for R100 000 from a man called Ngwenya.
“He still had an outstanding balance of R7 000.
“The police devised a plan to get Ngwenya to pick up the R7 000, he was arrested on arrival and charged with the selling of a hijacked motor vehicle.
“The vehicle was confiscated and taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep pound for further investigations,” he says.
Kgasago says they recently received information that the KwaThema residents who bought the BMW and from who the vehicle was impounded in March, was driving around in the same vehicle.

“When the police called to verify the claims he denied the claims.
“On Tuesday, the suspect was located near a Shell filling station in the area, driving the suspected vehicle.
“He was arrested and preliminary investigations pointed to him having fraudulently registered the vehicle in his name after claiming that the registration papers were stolen.
“He was charged with fraud and possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” he says.
