Duduza – Residents have been called upon by the police during a Sunday service at Kristo Nkosi Catholic Church on Sunday to keep their firearms safe and not use them carelessly.
This was a reminder of the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence held from May 7 to 14.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka says they decided to observe the day because of the recent incidents where guns were used to take innocent lives.
“We are concerned about the increasing number of people dying through the use of guns.
“During raids within the community, we have found unlicensed firearms.
“We are reaching out to the religious groups to pray for the country and victims of violence.
“Residents must always report any knowledge of illegal firearms within the community.
“Those who own firearms legally are encouraged to ensure they are in safekeeping according to the legislation,” he says.

Manaka also encouraged the congregants not to turn a blind eye to domestic violence.
“Women are abused and killed on a daily basis and only then we learn from the neighbours that the couple has been fighting for months.
“As a neighbour reach out and call the police before it is too late,” he says.
