Melo V on love and hip-hop

Splendid Music is ready to let the public into their ten years worth of growth in hiphop.

KwaThema – Splendid Music stable is putting in studio time to create a new sound for the ‘hood.

Rapper Tumelo ‘Melo V’ Vilakazi and producer Samuel ‘Mango’ Boloang say the hours spent locked up in the studio are about to pay off.

“We are the voice of the ‘hood, and we are ready to speak up.

“It’s been 10 years of a creative phase behind closed doors but now we have discovered our sound,” says Melo.

He says although there is a lot going on, music is a relevant tool for confronting social ills.

“Crime, we can’t get away from it, but we can talk about it and how we feel about it.”

Melo V recently released a single called ‘Standwa sami’, which is available on digital platforms.

The song will eventually be part of a collection called ‘Butterfly H’.

“It’s a hip-hop representation of love songs basically.”

He says his first mixed tape, ‘Pink walls’, had a very different sound to this one.

“It’s all about talent and we have been doing a lot for people to really get to know us.”

Melo says the highlight of his career remains his first public performance at Cofi in Hatfield.

“I enjoyed it because I got exposed to the game and I got to mingle with people who had been in the industry for much longer than I have.”
