Fiky to awaken the spirit at his show

Fiky is ready to put worship music back at the center of his life.

Tsakane – Mfanufikile, ‘Fiky’ Mngoma will host his Awake the Worship show on June 2 at Faith Mission ‘Ihlumela’.

Born in KwaThema and raised in Daveyton and Tsakane, Fiky says it is his turn to give back to his community after 18 years in the music industry.

“Most of our talents were nurtured and groomed in the small communities, but we soon leave for the bright lights of big cities.“I wanted to do something that would draw some positive attention to this place.”

After working as a backing vocalist for the likes of Lundi Tyamara, Fikile Mlomo and Donny, the singer of Basheshe Bahleka, Fiky is ready to do his own thing.

“My single, Ngena, will be out very soon, hopefully by the day of the show.”

He says his sound has evolved from the traditional gospel he grew up with.

“Because I was a backing vocalist, I had to adopt difference styles for the people I worked with.

“My project is going to be ‘me’, and I hope the people who have followed me all these years will be pleasantly surprised,” he explains.

The former lecturer has identified a crèche in Tsakane that will receive a donation from the proceeds of the show.

“I want to invite worshippers who have been knocked down by different circumstances in life.

“I know what that feels like, but you need to heal.”

Fiky says many people neglect their talents, especially in the church, because of rejection.

“No matter how far you stray, you know that little voice that keeps calling you home.

“I feel like I have been going through a process of restoration, and now I am well.”

Fiky Mngoma is currently working on recording his album.

The show will start at 2pm at ‘Ihlumela’.
