Abumama Bomthandazo donates school jerseys

Learners from disadvantaged backgrounds at Fred-Habedi Secondary School, received school jerseys from the Abomama Bomthandazo Siyaphila Team on Friday.

The campaign was part of the team’s winter campaign to keep a learner warm.

The team leader, Zodwa Mokoena, says they decided to help make a difference in a learner’s journey to school by donating school jerseys.

“We realised most of the learners in the area are from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially informal settlements.

“Many of them go to school in worn-out school uniforms or even wear home jerseys to school.

“This is a sign of inequality in the classroom and they end up feeling inferior to their peers,” she says.

Mokoena says they believe in the saying: “It takes a village to raise a child.”

“We have identified local schools who help us by identifying the learners who are in need of help.

“We don’t want the learner’s attention in class to be destroyed because they are cold,” she adds.

School principal Mapule Nyembe says they appreciate the help of the community and local business people in making a difference in their learner’s lives.

“We are able to function better with the continuous support of the community,” she says.
