“The two then applied a liquid substance which turned the colour of the ring to black." - Police

KwaThema – Police are searching for two men in connection with a jewellery theft in KwaThema on Saturday.

It is alleged the victim was doing her washing when the two suspects entered her home.

They claimed to be from Duduza Rank.

They said the woman could pawn her gold jewellery for cash or laundry baskets and tea sets.

KwaThema police spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi says the victim allegedly told them she didn’t own any gold items.

But one of the suspects told her that she can pawn her wedding ring.

“She told them she could not remove it from her finger.

“They suggested she use a dish-washing soap to remove it, and it eventually came off.

“The two then applied a liquid substance which turned the colour of the ring to black.

“They advised her to allow them to take the ring to their bosses at Duduza Rank who would help restore the colour of the ring.

“She refused, but they insisted and fled the house with her wedding ring,” he says.

Sibuyi is urging residents to be on the lookout for these men.

He adds that residents must not to allow anyone to convince them to pawn their jewellery pieces.
