Ekurhuleni Metro uncertain about future of Springs’ Pam Brink Stadium

Survey to be done regarding the future of Pam Brink Stadium.

The future of Pam Brink Stadium is still undecided and it is not yet clear what will happen to the landmark facility.

The stadium was the venue for several Springbok test rugby games in the 50s, 80s and in 2001.

In June 2017, a community survey covered areas of the CBD, Geduld, Brakpan CBD and KwaThema.

Questions asked in this survey included questions like “Are you familiar with the stadium and have you ever visited the stadium when it was still operational?” and “What would the community like to see happening to the stadium?”

At the time metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the outcome of the market study would give direction on whether the facility would be upgraded or not.

When questioned by The Addie on Wednesday about the metro’s plans for the stadium, Gadebe said the city had appointed consultants to conduct a study on the future use and/or development of the facility.

When asked about the results of the survey done by the metro in June 2017, Gadebe says, “The consultant was instructed to revisit his report to ensure that it is in line with the scope of work and deliverables. Thereafter, the results will be shared with the stakeholders, both internally and externally.”

Gadebe was reluctant to give a clear answer on whether the stadium would be demolished or not.

The results of the survey will inform the long-term decision to be taken about the stadium, and at this point, the metro is waiting for the results of the survey before they make any firm decisions on the long-term options and a model on the future use of the land or facility.
