Ward committee donates groceries to day-care centre

Ward 79 committee donated groceries to daycare in Langaville Extension Eight last Monday.

Langaville – Ward 79 committee members donated groceries to Ikhwezi Lakusasa Centre last Monday.

Nokubonga Mashifane, one of the volunteers at the centre, says they serve a community where most parents cannot afford to pay for daycare for their children.

“The centre provides care for children from 18 months to six years, from 7am until 12 midday.

“And it is all free of charge.”

The centre relies on donations from the public and government subsidy to stay afloat.

“We volunteer because we are proud to help our community, especially the development of the children, in this way,” she adds.

Councilor Zwelibanzi Ngwenya and his committee donated R3 000 worth of groceries to the project.

“The children have two meals here every day.

“We need to do our part in helping them to get the nutrition they need.”

The non-profit project is run from the Sanco office in Extension Eight.

“Our desire is to do much more for them and we hope the community will also help us in doing so,” he adds.

Ntombi Khambule, another volunteer, says the contribution will make a major difference.

“Groceries are one of the biggest expenses for the operation.

“So this food will unburden us for a little while.”

The centre appeals to the community to assist with any other contributions.
